COLUMN: Sports Fans Should Forgive But Not Forget

It is easy to be a sports “hater” in the current depressing atmosphere of distrust in almost all involved in the games we love.I certainly have been accused of the above attitude, and it’s not hard to get sucked into it. Players are using drugs to enhance their abilities and reaping benefits in the millions of dollars, and owners are threatening to move franchises for various dollar-and-cent reasons, all in a time when many are struggling to make minimum payments on credit cards and mortgages.

Substance Abusers Tarnish The Entire Sport of Baseball

The game of baseball hasn’t really gone through many changes since it became America’s pastime in the 1800’s. There are still four bases, a bat and a ball. The purpose is still to hit more home runs than the other team, and Cracker Jacks are still the signature snack at ball parks.However, the only major change is quite a gloomy one. It has plagued the game for the past 20 years or so, and has been referred to as baseball’s “black eye.” This recent change is the use of performance enhancing drugs by major leaguers.
