The California Supreme Court’s 6-1 decision upholds Proposition 8’s ban on same-sex marriage while maintaining that the marriages of the estimated 18,000 same-sex couples who wed prior to last November, prior to the ban, remain valid. The result of this decision is contradictory and gives rise to inequality by dividing California’s citizens into three separate groups under the law, each with different access to a valid marriage.

Free speech is something we all take for granted. Whether it is a debate over a movie, favorite sports teams or political affiliations, our constitutional right to speak freely has never been questioned.

Darryl Stephens was not a saint. I can say that with absolute certainty. He possibly could have been a terrible person, but with so many mentioning his benevolent nature and intent while on this campus, it’s hard to put that stamp on him.

The structured 19-year-old music major says that living a disorganized life is her “pet peeve,” and to look at her bags, you would believe it.

When it comes to study abroad trips, the five W’s are almost always mentioned: Who? What? Where? When? Why? But what about the “H” questions, how? ‘How’is it put together and how does it affect the students?

Opera Scenes, presented by PCC’s Performing and Communication Arts Division from May 28 to 31, offered a medley of various acts taken from four familiar operas. The operatic vignettes varied in languages, not only to those known for their romantic lyricism.

Since the first comic book placed its stamp on American culture in 1934, a countless number of these picture-heavy, action-packed magazines have followed in its footsteps.Throughout the golden, silver, bronze and modern eras, comic books have provided readers with superheroes characterized by their courage, super powers and, of course, a knack for fighting crime.

The Asian Association on campus is currently hosting a silent auction scheduled to end on Friday at 1 p.m. Items for bid are on display in the Shatford Library. The idea of the silent auction is to replenish scholarship funds the association can offer. Faculty and community members donated the items available for bid.

PCC honored arts patron Adelaide Hixon for her many contributions toward the works displayed at the Boone Sculpture Garden on Saturday. Meanwhile, the latest sculpture, “Baby Banana Tree” created by Yutaka Sone, had its official unveiling.

Despite being hampered this season by a chronic chest condition and allergies, PCC swim team co-captain Tai Nuntapramote has put together a great individual season that included winning a record five events at the Mt. SAC Invitational in February and was capped off by a state championship in the 200-meter butterfly in April.
