The event was a celebration of Pasadena’s educational institutions and featured a series of challenges in which each school participated in.Also participating in the event were Caltech, Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts, Fuller Seminary, Art Center College of Design and Pacific Oaks College.

“We’re very proud of Pasadena as a center for learning,” said Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard, during a speech to the crowd.

“The institutions of higher learning in the city of Pasadena, each in their own fields, are at the top of their professions. And the city of Pasadena is so proud to be a city of such distinguished institutions,” said Bogaard.

The schedule of events included the “Cheeseburger Challenge,” in which teams had to make cheeseburgers that were judged by Councilwoman Jacque Robinson, restaurateur Jack Huang and Director of the Honda Design Center, Dave Marek.

Other events included the Meteor Toss, in which teams had to assemble a device to catch objects that were hurled at them as well as a Blind Faith Challenge in which a member of each team was blindfolded and had to pick up flags from the field while being guided by teammate’s voices.

In addition, a game called the Monster Croquet Challenge required teams to use giant mallets to push oversized inflatable balls through giant wickets. PCC was eliminated from contention when Student Trustee Brian Abadia went the wrong way on the course.

At the end of the event, points were totaled by the judges and Caltech was determined to be the overall winner, with PCC at a close second.

AS Chief Justice Michael Lance was proud of how the event turned out.

“It was a good start for the first annual tournament here. It set a foundation for future years,” said Lance.

“We’ll try to coordinate more with the local schools and we hope to be able to plan more events soon,” he said.
