With 22 pens, President Obama changed the face of health care that some have waited a lifetime for.The predicted effects that the reform will have on the American people, both positive and negative, have been examined. However, they have left a bitter taste in the mouths of many, especially those who are concerned about higher taxes and those who feel their rights have been infringed.

During a speech to push forward the health care reform, Obama said, “A family making less than $250,000 a year, my plan will not raise your taxes — not your income taxes, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains tax.”

In a survey of consumer finances, sponsored by the Federal Reserve Board, a little over one percent of Americans today earn over $250,000.

Although that may not seem like a huge percentage, as history has shown, the slightest change can cause the utmost huge ripple effect.

With many of these high income families and individuals being small business owners, they stand to face higher taxes, along with providing employees with insurance.

Under the reform, employers who have a payroll that exceeds $400,000 a year would have to provide health insurance or will face an 8 percent penalty.

For those who’s payroll falls between $250,000 and $400,000, the same consequence applies but at a smaller amount.

According to 2006 data from the National Federation of Independent Business, businesses with between five and nine workers had an average payroll of around $375,000 a year.

This means that employers will be put in the position of either paying for insurance, cutting employees, or facing government fines that can put them out of business.

The new law will also require most citizens to be covered under health insurance or face fines.

The American public is given the ability to choose and access to certain rights that no one can take from them. Is it possible that they have had the Constitution pulled from right under them?

With the government now forcing people to buy insurance or face consequences, it may seem that way.

“The government doesn’t belong in the doctor’s office and should not decide what kind of health care you can get,” said U.S. House representative from Arizona’s third district John Barden Shadegg

With the passing of health care reform the government has more control over how your health is covered and how much will come out of your pocket. Whether the government requirement for health insurance is a contradiction to our constitution is now up for the courts to decide.

Healthcare reform will be a negative change for the American people; they must speak up against complete government control.
