After 13 years PCC women’s basketball Head Coach Joe Peron won his and the schools first California Community College Athletic Association Women’s Basketball State Title in a triumphant 74-64 victory over North second seeded San Joaquin Delta College at Selland Arena in Fresno on Sunday.

Revenge is sweet. Especially if you’re a member of the PCC women’s basketball team right now. After losing to the City College of San Francisco in the championship game of the Hilton Garden Inn Classic earlier in the season, Kinyada Johnson, Easter Faafiti and company knocked the top ranked Rams (33-3) out of the California Community College Athletic Association Final Eight Tournament in a tight, 95-93 overtime victory Friday at Selland Arena in Fresno.

The PCC women’s basketball team will face San Joaquin Delta College in the championship game of the California Community College Final Eight Tournament today at 3:30 p.m. at Selland Arena in Fresno.The fourth seeded Lancers (32-4) eliminated the south second seeded Ventura (34-1) College Pirates 106-93 in Selland Arena earlier today. They handed the previously undefeated Pirates their first loss of the season to advance to their third championship game in six years.

The PCC softball team has not been a stranger to close games this season, and Thursday’s game at East Los Angeles College was no different. The Lancers lost 4-1 to the Huskies in a game that was tight until the end.The Huskies were celebrating the dedication of their softball field before the game, but it was PCC who had something to cheer about first when they got on the board in the fourth inning.

The Lancer baseball team fell 3-2 against conference rival Long Beach City College at Joe Hicks Memorial Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.Long Beach (12-8) snapped PCC’s (5-10) three-game win streak by limiting them to only three hits.”We didn’t hit, that was the problem,” said PCC Head Coach Evan O’Meara.

After losing the season opener against East Los Angeles College, PCC women’s badminton team redeemed themselves winning a narrow 11-10 victory over the Huskies on Wednesday.

The Lancer softball team lost a close game to Long Beach City College 2-1 in their third South Coast Conference at Brookside Park on Tuesday.A 1-1 tie early in the top of the sixth inning was erased as Viking first baseman Vanessa Samudio hit a home run off of Lancer pitcher Melissa O’Conner to take the lead.

It is easy to be a sports “hater” in the current depressing atmosphere of distrust in almost all involved in the games we love.I certainly have been accused of the above attitude, and it’s not hard to get sucked into it. Players are using drugs to enhance their abilities and reaping benefits in the millions of dollars, and owners are threatening to move franchises for various dollar-and-cent reasons, all in a time when many are struggling to make minimum payments on credit cards and mortgages.

Former PCC basketball star Harold Cleveland has transferred to Wiley College in Marshall, Texas, after a turbulent season at Xavier University of Louisiana.

The hard work of the administration, faculty and Associated Students will culminate next week as PCC undergoes the accreditation process.
