What happened in the ring at Madison Square Garden, between Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto and Shane Mosley on Saturday, is what the fans want to see in every boxing fight.Punches, punches and more punches.

Cotto’s victory, which let him keep his World Boxing Association welterweight crown, was just symbolic.

Symbolic because someone needed to win. Though in this particular fight, both Cotto and “Sugar” Mosley deserved to win (many who saw that exciting fight may agree with me).

Unfortunately, in boxing, there is no tie and someone has to win, either by knockout or unanimous decision.

Cotto won by unanimous decision, 115-113, 115-113, 116-113. However, what Cotto (31-0, 25 KO) and Mosley (44-5, 37 KO) showed in every round does not usually happen in boxing.

They went with the mentality: a matar o a morir (to kill or to die).

Throughout the 12 rounds, Cotto seemed to take the initial lead in the early rounds, landing some punches on Mosley, yet Mosley had his own too, from the eighth to the 10th.

They displayed an intense fight, making the fans leave their seats and cheer for the quality of the fight.

Not to exaggerate, but this fight was clearly more exciting than the fight that Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather promised, but never was delivered.

Mayweather (38-0, 24 KO) will be back on the ring Dec. 8 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas to fight against Ricky Hatton to defend his World Boxing Council welterweight title.

Hatton, who is undefeated as well with a record of 43-0 and 31 KO, will try to prove that he is the best pound-for-pound fighter.
And I thought that Mayweather was going to retire.

According to him, he is coming out of the retirement to “shut him up” about any speculations of his abilities.

However, if he fights Hatton the way he did De La Hoya, Hatton may increase his chances of having a victorious ending.

So, a spectacle for that fight? Maybe. We have to see the degree of testosterone that they wake up with.
