PCC’s Psychological Services hosts a yearlong program that assists graduate students from other colleges in finishing their doctorate in different specialties of psychology. This year PCC has a new group of women counselors that have been brought on to the team.

Among this group is Sandra Hawa, who was raised in Abu Dhabi until the age of 16.

She then moved to Beirut, Lebanon where she completed her first of two M.A.’s in Psychology from American University of Beirut.

She relocated to the U.S. three years ago where she completed her second M.A. at Alliant International University (AIU). She is currently finishing her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from AIU through her student counseling at PCC.

Her area of specialty is with women who are survivors of abusive relationships, rape and other traumas.

Cathie Gray is also completing her doctorate while at PCC. She is a continuing student at Fuller Graduate School where she has already earned a M.A.

She also holds a B.A. in English from the University of North Carolina and another M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Asbury Theological Seminary. Her expertise lies in a therapeutic approach focusing on building positive social skills to help overcome problems with depression, anxiety, and emotional difficulties brought on by many situations.

UCLA alumna Miriam Barillas earned her B.A. in Psychology. There she is also currently attending AIU where she is finishing her doctorate in Clinical Psychology where she has already received her M.A. Barillas has a background with helping people with substance abuse.

While at PCC she wants to include stress and anger management, self-esteem issues and multicultural issues to her repertoire of specialties.

Yoey Cheng is also finishing her doctorate at AIU in Clinical Psychology where she received her first M.A. She also has a B.A. in Psychology and Social Behavior from U.C.I.

Being from Taiwan and moving to the US at the young age of three, she has an interest in exploring multicultural community issues, transitional and phase of life problems.

PCC’s Psych Services hours are 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. by appointment Monday through Friday, in room L108. If in an emergency, 20 minute walk-in sessions are available Monday and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Tuesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Call (626) 585-7273 for further assistance.
