Stans back in stands: Return of Lancer fans gets athletes excited

More than 411 spectators attended Robinson Stadium Oct. 23 to watch PCC defend its home turn against Compton College. Because of the coronavirus and its variants, this was the first time that fans were allowed into the stadium since 2019. Most of the fans looked pretty excited to cheer on the boys in cardinal and gold from the bleachers instead of Parking Lot No. 4, but it was the student-athletes at PCC who were impacted the most.

Lancers make homecoming TarTar sauce for first fans since 2019

Prior to the snap, wide receiver Jeremiah Hartfield motioned from right to left of the formation, nearly running perpendicular behind quarterback Edward Norton who hiked the football and faked the first of two read options to running back Miles Anderson before sprinting to his left. The true conspiracy happened when the only defender in good position was beguiled into tackling Hartfield, the man without the ball.

The Lancers football team needed an emphatic stop Saturday night on third down, leading Citrus College Owls 23-20 with 56 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Citrus marched their special teams unit on the field to attempt to tie the game with a field goal. With no fans in the stands at Robinson field, the student parking lot 4 erupted. With the game in jeopardy, down 22-10 against Cerritos College at the 16-yard-line of the Falcons side in the fourth quarter on fourth-and-7 with less than 22 seconds remaining, only a prayer could lift this team to victory. Quarterback Kade Wentz rolled out of the shotgun spread formation facing pressure from his left and sprinted to his right, slipped a tackle and directed his receiver with a hand motion.
