She.Codes computer science club president Kristiana Rendón was recently featured in an article by NASA for successfully leading PCC’s “Swarmathon” team in difficult programming competitions at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida earlier this year.
Pasadena City College is participating in Swarmathon, a robotics competition organized by the University of New Mexico and funded by the NASA Minority University Research and Education Program, in which students will create robots called “Swarmies” designed for planetary exploration.
Purple and white balloons accompanied simple, hastily-made signs with “She++” scrawled in black marker dotted throughout campus. For most, the phrase is a foreign combination of a word followed by plus signs. But to tech-heavy individuals, the message is clear: these posters were directing foot traffic to a female-focused computer science lecture in the UU forum.
