The PCC women’s soccer team took to the road on Tuesday evening to Long Beach City College, looking for their first road win of the season. However, those plans will remain on hold, as the Lancers dropped their match to the Vikings, 4-0. The loss drops the Lancers to 4-7-3 (2-4-1), with their last win coming three weeks ago.

The Lancers had to play catch-up early, as they gave up a goal to sophomore forward Brenda Reyes, in just the 12th minute of the match. Reyes headed the ball off a nice pass by defender Rylee Anderson from a free kick.

Just 10 minutes later, sophomore forward Yasmyn Andrade put the Vikings up 2-0. Andrade dribbled the ball through the PCC defense and placed her shot into the back of the net. The score remained 2-0 as halftime approached.

Then in the second half, as the Lancers tried to fight and put up a comeback, they let the game get away from them. The Vikings scored a pair of goals within two minutes, putting the Lancers in a 4-0 hole. Vikings sophomore Katie Yamaguchi broke away from the Lancers defense to score in the 68th minute.

Then, in the ensuing kickoff, Andrade was able to break away from the defense after Reyes stole the ball. Reyes hit Andrade with the pass, and she capitalized, scoring her second goal of the match.

The Lancers never had anything going offensively, as the Vikings’ defense stood their ground on their home turf. However, spirits remain high for Lancers’ head coach Reggie Rivas.

“I thought they played hard,” Rivas said. “I thought they put a lot of effort in. Our girls worked very hard and I’m very proud of them.”

Freshman defender Hillary Khan said the Lancers tried their best but couldn’t capitalize.

“Unfortunately, we couldn’t get a goal,” she said. “We’re going to get prepared for Compton on Friday and hopefully pull another win out.”

When asked what his team needs to improve on for their next match, coach Rivas said the team needs to get healthy.

With another tough loss hanging above their heads, this squad remains hopeful and is looking to bounce back on Friday when they host ECC Compton at Robinson Stadium at 3:00 p.m.
