On Tuesday, citizens of the United States will go to their local polling place and punch in whom they think should be our country’s leader for the next four years.

Not only is voting for who will be our president important, but for those who favor neither Republican Mitt Romney nor Democrat Barack Obama, third party candidates and their propositions for change or reform can be accounted for with a vote as well.

Whether or not you are for greener energy, a free market not closely run by government, or even want your tax rate reduced, you can pick a candidate with a check in their box on the voting slip.

Voting for a third party member such as Libertarian Gary Johnson or Green Party member Jill Stein allows for their values and ideas about government to be heard. While the likelihood of either winning is slim, a voter’s support reaches out to what that third party candidate stands for, be it a less intrusive government, or an alternative energy supply.

Listening to alternative points of views other than the traditional blue and red sides gives you the opportunity to expand your knowledge on political, social and economic issues and how they can be handled.

By hearing third party candidates out, especially if you are a voter who feels stuck by deciding to vote for the lesser of two evils, consider voting for someone whose values better align with yours, and whose goals will move forward these values, be it a political agenda more focused on cleaner energy, or a plan that lessens the government’s interaction with the economy.

So get out to the polls, and vote for which you believe should really be the leader of our nation, be it someone who supports green, red, purple, or blue.
