From the ripe young age of 5 Brianna Allen had an unforgettable attraction to art. Developing creatively as a young artist, Allen explored her attraction to music, learning to read music and play the piano.

At the age of 25, Allen has concentrated her passion for art towards three-dimensional media. Although her focus is toward this medium, she intends to explore others.

“It has been a long journey to find a medium that suits me,” said Allen.

Her earliest college experience artistically came during the last year of high school as she enrolled in a life sculpture class at Saddle Back Community College.

When she arrived at PCC, Allen began searching for a medium that would best suit her. Focusing her artistic enthusiasm toward three-dimensional media, she gravitated to jewelry.

Having a tangible piece of art, something you could touch and enjoy with others, is a testament to her drive and unselfishness toward her art.

“My work resulted in a finished piece that not only I valued, but others found beauty and value in them as well”, said Allen.

Her drive to create is something she is not only proud of, but is seen by some of her current instructors at PCC.

“I love her attitude, I love the way she goes at stuff”, said Ceramics instructor Jim Gonzalez. “She is a hardworking artist that gets what she deserves and nothing gets handed to her.”

That exquisiteness and maturity at which she approaches her is art is not only evident in one of her art pieces, but is something that is felt by one of her current instructors.

“Brianna’s personality and art is at a more mature level compared to many students”, said painting instructor James Morphesis

One of Allen’s recent achievements came as she submitted her work to the 58th Annual faculty judged Visual Arts and Media Studies scholarship competition.

As a validation of her exceptional work, Allen was just awarded the Ruth Estes Bissiri Memorial Scholarship.

“For a student to win the award that she won, she really had to put her best foot forward as far as her work is concerned,” said Gonzalez.

Brianna Allen is congratulated by Ceramics Professor Keiko Fukazawa at the Pasadena City College art gallery where a reception was held june 3rd for all scholarship winners. (Steven Valdez)
