The Lancers volleyball team gathered its 15th sweep of the season on Friday when it defeated Los Angeles Harbor College in Hutto-Patterson Gym by match scores of 25-14, 25-12 and 25-14.With an overall record of 19-4 and a South Coast Conference record of 11-2, PCC holds the second place spot in the conference, but the title has already been claimed by the undefeated El Camino College. This is El Camino’s ninth SCC title in ten years.

Against the Seahawks of L.A. Harbor, PCC “played aggressively,” according to Head Coach Tammy Silva.

“Offensively, we had great stats,” said Silva. “[We had] minimal hitting errors. [The Lancers] came to play Friday night and [I am] very proud of the girls.”

Lancers sophomores Aliyyah Abdullah and Jessica Foley stood out, with Abdullah once again leading the way with 21 kills in the game, bringing her season total to 265. Foley contributed a season-high 10 kills.

With Pasadena ranked No. 5 in the state, Coach Silva is preparing her team for the playoffs.

“There is a possibility we will see El Camino again during playoffs but we have to take it one match at a time,” she said. The Lancers’ only two conference losses are against El Camino.

“We cannot overlook anyone, especially during this time of the year,” Silva continued. “During playoffs, anything can happen.”

PCC will have to wait until Sunday to find out which college it will be seeded against for the first round of playoffs.

Silva, who was selected as the SCC Women’s Coach of the Year for 2009-2010 earlier this year, is counting on the team to learn from its mistakes, even when it seems to be at the top of its game.

“I think any team learns the most when they lose,” Silva said. “They find out what their weaknesses are and as a coaching staff, we are able to make adjustments where needed. This team has what it takes to go all the way but we can’t get ahead of ourselves. We need to stay focused and take care of business.”

The southern California playoffs will be hosted by PCC in Hutto-Patterson Gym on Nov. 23, 27 and 30.
