Pasadena City College student April Townsend died in a fatal pickup truck crash early Friday morning in Santa Clarita. She was 19 years old.
The driver lost control of the truck off the Rush Canyon Truck Trail and the vehicle plummeted 200 feet down an embankment, according to the Los Angeles Times. Two other 19-year-old teenagers, Jake Gnasso and Ian Bulbenko, were also fatally wounded, while two unidentified teenagers suffered moderate injuries, the Times reports.
“Our deepest condolences go out to April’s family as well as those affected by this tragedy,” PCC Interim President Robert Miller said in a statement.
The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating if alcohol was a factor in the accident, according to the Times.
Students who need assistance coping with Townsend’s loss are urged to contact the Psychological Services Department at (626) 585-7273 or visit the L Building, Room 108.
