During the first half, the Lancers football team dominated defending state and national champions Mt. San Antonio College in Saturday night’s game at Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut, but PCC was unable to hold on and lost their final game of the season, 33-30.The Lancers failed to convert a fourth-and-two situation late in the game, setting up the Mounties’ winning drive capped by a field goal.

PCC led Mt. SAC by as large a margin as 21 points and took the game into halftime with a 27-16 lead, but a second half attack brought the Mounties back into the game, tying it at 30 points at the end of the third quarter.

Mt. SAC then kicked the game winning 27-yard field goal with two seconds left in the fourth quarter, their first lead of the game.

The Lancers’ air attack was led by sophomore quarterback Caleb Fore who threw for 361 yards with 23 completions out of 43 attempts.

Fore’s main target was sophomore receiver Reuben Thomas, who accounted for 227 of the Lancers’ 361 passing yards and one touchdown.

Though sophomore Manako Tuifua accumulated only four total yards on the ground, he took Head Coach Dennis Gossard’s strategy of big back red-zone rushing into play and scored three of the Lancers’ touchdowns.

None of Tuifua’s individual scores were for more than two yards.

Except for Tuifua’s touchdown’s, PCC’s rushing game was stifled by Mt. SAC’s defense.

Fore was the most productive on the ground, gathering 33 yards on 12 carries.

Freshman Danny Robinson and sophomore Ron Spears, who rounded out the running game, could not break through the Mounties’ defense.

Robinson rushed for 13 yards on two carries and Spears ran for 14 yards on seven carries.

The Lancers began their season showing great potential, streaking to a 4-0 record. In their third home game of the season though, PCC lost to Ventura and was unable to turn their game around for the remainder of the season.

PCC’s football team ended its season with a 4-6 overall record and went winless throughout its difficult National Southern Conference.

Last year, under Head Coach James Kuk’s leadership and in the National Northern Conference, the team’s record was 5-5 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
