The award-winning documentary Mother: Caring for 7 Billion will be shown in a free public screening on July 31 at noon in the Circadian Room, CC Building.

The screening will be one of two free showings presented by the Glendale chapter of Population Connection and the Glendale Human Relations Coalition.  The latter organization supports the film’s message in emphasizing the importance of women’s rights and in providing contraceptive freedoms to women if they need them, according to Sharon Weisman from the Glendale Human Relations Coalition.

The film examines the often-overlooked and growing problem of overpopulation, focusing uniquely on the importance of women’s education.

Ludina Sallam from Population Connections said: “Studies have shown women who are more educated tend to marry later and have fewer children.”

As the population continues to grow and world resources dwindle, addressing this issue from the standpoint of women’s rights is an important step to fixing this problem, she added.

A second screening of the film will take place at Glendale Central Library Auditorium on August 10 at 7 p.m.  After both screenings, there will be a brief discussion of the film’s content followed by opportunities to write to your elected representatives concerning this issue.
