Sophomore guard Harold Cleveland has been carrying the men’s basketball team through a tough year and entered the Wells Fargo Holiday Tournament at Riverside Community College averaging 24.5 points per game, accounting for 37 percent of the Lancer offense.Cleveland didn’t deviate from his impressive performance, averaging 23.3 points and 7.3 rebounds in the three games of the tournament.

The Lancers opened the tournament with their eighth straight loss to highly ranked Fullerton (9-0), 98-70, but followed their opening loss with a double-digit comeback win against Palomar (3-5), 80-75.

The win against Palomar advanced the Lancers to the consolation bracket semifinals, where they fell to San Bernardino Valley (3-7), 67-64. In a game that featured seven lead changes and a Lancer halftime lead, the Lancers were handed their third loss by less than five points.

Other solid tournament contributors were sophomore guard Rico Henderson, who averaged 13.3 points in the tournament, and freshman point guard Corey Caston, who led the Lancers in assists averaging 8 in three tournament games.

The Lancers head to Chaffey College (7-5) in Rancho Cucamonga on Dec. 12 with a 1-9 record and have their home opener against L.A. Southwest on Dec. 19.
