In fast-paced games, the PCC women’s badminton team outplayed Los Angeles City College, 19-2, on Wednesday at the Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.Prior to the game, the Lancers had already earned five points in advance, as the Cubs were short a number of players.
While PCC played with all six players, LACC started only with four.

Sophomore Angeline Kornelus won her two singles’ games with superiority, as she used her experience to beat her opponents. Kornelus defeated Cubs’ Madison Tarr, 21-4, 21-6 and Magdalena Rogosz, 21-4, 21-1.

“I just set my mind to play relaxed in my games,” said Kornelus. “I just tried to move my opponents side to side with clears and drops.”

Kornelus also paired up with teammate Deborah Tsao to defeat the Cubs’ doubles’ teams. In the first doubles game, the

Lancers duo beat Tarr and Rogosz, 21-4, 21-9. In second turn, Kornelus and Tsao outplayed Yazmeen Townsend and Ester Li, 21-5, 21-8, giving the Lancers a total of four points in the score box.

PCC freshmen Cathy Liu, Carol Liu, and sophomore Elaine Hu had outstanding performances, as they won both of their singles’ games as well.

Cathy Liu defeated Tarr, 21-15, 21-8, and Rogosz, 21-19, 21-5. Meanwhile, Carol Liu beat Townsend with a double 21-6, and Li, 21-4, 21-3.

“Carol and Cathy have improved a lot since the beginning of the season, and they have shown their improvement on the court,” said PCC’s badminton coach Bill Sanchez.

With the victory, the Lancers improved their South Coast Conference record to 6-2, while the Cubs dropped to 0-8.
The Lancers will play LACC again on April 16 on LACC’s campus.
