Many athletes in all sports at all levels use music to get themselves ready for training and games, and those at PCC are no different. Many of them use music to prepare for various sporting events during the year.Kwajo Bonsu, 19, kinesiology, is a football player that uses pregame music to get amped up for games. Bonsu listens to a playlist that includes Lil’ Wayne, Waka Flocka and Gucci Mane.

“My music gets me hyped up and makes me want to go and hit something and also go out and score,” said Bonsu.

Jaron Hurlbut, 18, sociology, is a football player whose pregame musical preferences go in a completely different direction.

Hurlbut listens to reggae, preferably Ky-Mani Marley to relax him during his pregame ritual.

“It helps me to stay calm before the game. It keeps me from getting too hyped so that I can stay focused,” he said.

Some athletes change their pregame music depending on the mood for that particular game.

“Sometimes I need to get pumped up, but other times I need to listen to something soothing,” said soccer player Jessica Capra, 18, undecided.

Capra prefers Lil Wayne and Waka Flocka, before a big game.

Danielle Lugo, 20, business, uses her eclectic playlist not only for big games but also for training. Lugo is a fan of Pennywise, Lil Wayne, Kevin Rudolf and Disturbed.

“I get focused for the game and I even listen to my favorite tracks before practice,” she said.

Students Eddie Trip and Alex Brown are on both the football and track and field teams.

Their playlists include Rick Ross, Gucci Mane, Lil Wayne, Waka Flocka, DMX, and Soulja Slim.

“My music makes me feel wired before a game, like I just had an energy drink,” said Tripp.

Brown gets a similar feeling before games.

“It puts you in the zone,” he said.
