Associated Students has started playing popular shows on a projection screen in the wi-fi lounge. The shows are played in the afternoon every Monday and Wednesday. AS is amidst negotiations with television studios to license more content for screening,

Recently, shows like “Glee” and “Avatar: The Last Airbender” have been viewed.

“We want it to grow on its own,” said Vice President for Campus Activities Joseph Garcia. “We’re also going to have a suggestion box in the lounge so students can request what they want to watch.”

“I think it’s cool,” said engineering student Ray Amurao. “If I had some free time I would definitely watch.”

AS would like to promote its own events through commercials, but due to licensing agreements it could prove to be a legal hurdle, said Garcia.

Along with the licensed television shows and movies, AS plans to show PCC?theatre productions.

But Garcia prefers mainstream content because he finds it “easier to get people to watch Glee than it is theater. We want to cater to what the audience wants.”

Nursing student Ally Roffski is unsure about the channel. “I come here to study, and I think it would be a distraction; it’s really loud,” she said. “If I’m not doing work though, it’s not that bad. There’s always the library to go to.”

The student activity fee pays for the cost of licensing. AS hopes to purchase an inflatable screen.

According to Garcia, the inflatable screen cost $700 to rent for a day, and the cost to buy it is about $2000.

In addition to shows, AS is planning movie nights. “Inception” will be viewed in the Quad tonight at 7:30 p.m.
