New Years resolutions are supposed to give people a fresh start for the new year. Those who made themselves aim to either start doing something that they did not do the year before, or to put an end to a bad habit which they want to live without during the new year.

PCC students and faculty members have also made New Year’s resolutions and most are still sticking to them.

“My New Year’s resolution is to eat healthier,” said Myra Whittington, carrying her strawberries in her hand. She made a vow that she would add more fruit and vegetables to her diet, hoping that the high blood pressure and diabetes running in her family would skip her.

“So far, the pact I made is going pretty well,” she added. “I have fruit right here.”

Dustin Gomez, a dental lab technician major, wants to cut out junk food and foods with chemicals. “I want to eat healthier,” Gomez said.

Freshman Lee Liu, holding his registration papers in hand, said that his New Year’s resolution was to go to school and receive his Associate of Arts Degree.

“I want to transfer to earn my bachelor’s degree in business management so I can upgrade myself to work in my parents’ business.”

Chiara Hensley, instructor and counselor, wants to find balance between her personal life and work.

“If you get too wrapped up in work, you forget about the important things,” she said. “You forget to enjoy life. In the past, I let work take over my life and I wasn’t happy with the imbalance because it was causing problems.”

Natasha Nicholson wants to have a more positive outlook on life, leaving behind her negative attitude.

“I noticed when times get rough, I get down on myself,” she said. “In order to improve, you have to stay positive,” she said. “It’s easier to be negative than it is to be positive.”

Since the New Year, Nicholson is looking positive in any given situation instead of focusing on the negative, even if her day starts off on the wrong note.

John Halulyan, student staffer in the career center, wants to cut down on procrastination while boosting up his catering business.

“I specialize in all foods popular in the Los Angeles area,” he said.ara
