The women’s soccer team had its first win against Mt. San Antonio College in three years on Tuesday. The Lancers pulled off their win with a lockout score of 2-0 after a slow first period.

Two minutes into the second half Vanessa Capra scored the first goal after a throw-in assist and then a solo charge at the goal from half field. Mallory Gutierrezscored the second goal with fourteen minutes left, assisted by Vanessa Capra.

In the first half the Lancers had more shots at the goal, but ended up spending most of the period playing defense against the energetic Mt. SAC offense.  Two shots were blocked by Mt. SAC goalie Loren Cerafice. Lancer goalie Jessica Capra finished the first half with three saves, keeping the score at 0-0 at the end of the period.

“During the first period we were giving them too much room…the second half was a lot tighter, we definitely came out and did a better job,” Head Coach Randy Lilavois said after the game.

Tatiana Cruz replaced Jessica Capra as goalie after an injury in the first half.  Cruz blocked several shots in the second half, but the Lancers spent most of the time on offense, playing much tighter than the first half.

“It was a good game, usually when things go bad, they go bad. We were able to turn it around,” Lilavois added. “We have a game against Compton Friday, hopefully we can continue to win.”
