The PCC women’s soccer team took to the road Friday, traveling to Moorpark College and leaving with a 1-1 draw. Friday’s draw was the fourth of six road games to start the 2014-15 season.

Just as the Lancers haven’t stepped foot onto their home turf, they haven’t stepped foot into the win column either. They remain winless to start the new campaign, going 0-2-2.

That looked as if it were going to change on Friday, as the Lancers held a 1-0 lead for the majority of the match. In the 19th minute, PCC scored on a goal by  Ani Hemelians coming on a rebound off the crossbar.

The Lancers took the 1-0 lead into the locker room at halftime, looking quite confident to notch their first win of the season.

The Raiders from Moorpark College had different plans, however. With just five minutes remaining in the match, Sarah McHale scored as she recovered a loose ball off a corner kick. McHale put the ball into the back of the net, crushing the Lancers’ hope of winning.

“We were leading the game for the most part, but we just gave up a goal in the last minute,” said head coach Reggie Rivas.

Rivas said his team has plenty of room to improve.

“Well, we need to work on preserving the lead, closing out games, and working on our defense,” he said.

Despite the draw, Lancers’ goalkeeper, Ashley Hermosillo put on a great performance, recording six saves to keep the PCC in the game.

The Lancers will next travel to Irvine Valley College on Friday. After that they will gladly end their six-game road stretch at Cuyamaca College in El Cajon before coming home for the first time this season against Mt. San Jacinto.
