Influential rapper, author, and producer Carlton Douglas Ridenhour popularly known as Chuck D, will visit PCC on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at noon. His three four presentation in Sexson Auditorium is part of the Cross-Cultural Center's series of diverse speakers.His speech "Fight The Power: Race, Rap, and Reality" will touch on the values of social justice, topics of diverse cultures, inter-community issues, and youth voting.
Ridenhour is the leader of Public Enemy, an influential rap group known for its politically conscious lyrics, disapproval of the media, and concern for the African-American community.
"We're really excited about having Chuck D speak. He is a very loose speaker and loves student interaction. He usually has microphones in the audience and this event is free," said Cross-Cultural Center director Carrie Afuso about the appearance ", People have to pay to see prominent speakers at big schools like UCLA and USC. This a great opportunity for the students at PCC," Afuso said.
Ridenhour is one of the many popular presenters to visit PCC over the last seven years. Other notables included philosopher Dr. Cornel West, activist Rigoberta Menchu and multimedia humorist Lalo Alcarez.
