The top contenders in the Republican primary – Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson, and Mitt Romney – have yet to really address college affordability or lower tuition rates in any way, shape or form.Giuliani, the more liberal of the Republican candidates, is surprisingly conservative on education, suggesting the private sector take over failing schools, without confronting how the students will take the blow for the higher education costs.

Romney’s education plan does not really bother with helping students afford higher education, reinforcing the stereotype: “there are no young Republicans” – not even feigning interest in the liberal college vote.

Romney’s plans consist namely of federal abstinence from schools, leaving the decisions in the hands of the local communities.

Fred Thompson has the most moderate and legitimate education platform with a genuine focus on America’s need put more effort into trade school forms of higher education with reference to nursing.

However, much like the rest of the Republican candidates, his plans are vague and even as someone who struggled to pay for college tuition costs himself, he does not believe the government will ever be in a position where it can offer four years of college to everyone for affordable low costs.
