Fellow students provide tips for when broke college students want to dress fashionably while staying within their budget.

When broke college students want to dress fashionably while staying within their budget, there are many wallet-friendly options.

“Fashion is cyclical. The clothes our parents wore in the 70s are now back in style, which makes thrift stores great,” said English major Katie Miller. “You can get clothes that are in style for less than $5. I go to this one store in Altadena called Daz-E which always has great finds.”

Anther student looks to a different era.

“I like going to second hand stores because I always find nostalgic 90s clothes,” said Ryan Davis, psychology. “Last weekend I went to Out of the Closet and found a Street Sharks t-shirt that I used to wear when I was a kid for 50 cents.”

Almost every style can be accommodated in these stores. They have an eclectic variety of clothing because the clothes are donated by people of all walks of life.

“I’m drawn to the styles of the past,” said Amber Jones, linguistics. “I like thrift stores because not only are the clothes inexpensive but they are well-made. I love going to the Rose Bowl and PCC swap meets to find treasures.”

“On my break from classes I sometimes walk from campus down to the Out of the Closet on Colorado,” Heather Banks, undeclared. “It’s a nice way to kill time as well as have an excuse to find cute new outfits for a good deal.”

Thrift stores such as Out of the Closet and Salvation Army are two of many stores that sell second-hand clothing for a fraction of the cost of retail stores. Branches of these two stores are located within two miles of campus.
