Whether they’re hitting the gym or hiking trails, students around campus are finding different ways to stay in shape, managing to find a balance between school and fitness.

Students are engaging in sports as a means to stay in shape and be competitive

“Gym and gym,” Lauren Arteche, kinesiology, jokingly said. “[But} I also do co-ed softball in San Dimas,” she added.

Joining a PCC athletic team is also a popular way of staying fit for many students. Football, for instance, is a physical sport that involves an arduous amount of running. “I run on the football field all day, every day,” said Joey Chase, communications/business, who is on the Lancer football team.

Mitchell Crockum, business, who is also on the football team, cross-trains to stay in shape for the football season. “I play basketball for conditioning and I do lunges on hills,” he said.

Football isn’t the only athletic program students are joining though.

“I play badminton and go to the gym,” said Alejandra Palarios, kinesiology, who is on the badminton team.

Sally Wong, child development, is on the PCC cheer team and credits the program for helping her stay in shape, “We do a lot of running. Whenever I can, I go to the gym,” she said.

Hiking is another popular way to stay fit amongst students, allowing them to engage in physical activity while staying outdoors in a natural setting. “I work out and eat healthy. I go hiking a lot at Eaton Canyon,” said Tatiana Teran, pre-med.

“I go to the gym and I go hiking with friends,” said Simon Ho, law/poli-sci, who enjoys hiking with his friends in the hills of Arcadia.

Whether it’s hiking, going to the gym, or joining an athletic program, students around campus are engaging in their preferred method of physical activity to stay in shape.
