Pasadena Weekly’s “Best of Pasadena 2010” winner, Milestone Theatre Company, is where many PCC theater students flock to showcase their talent.

Mike Alva, a former  PCC student, and his friends started Milestone in fall of 2007 to help “amateur actors get their foot in the door,” he said. “Pasadena has a lot going on in performing arts but many aspects of our community indirectly prohibit ‘amateur’ actors.”

Milestone is  known as the next step for students once they have completed their studies at PCC in the arts.

Milestone’s goal is to give independent artists a platform to grow and showcase themselves in order to progress in their desired artistic fields, looking back on their experiences with Milestone as a ‘milestone’ in their artistic lives, said Alva. All in the cultural hub of the San Gabriel Valley-Pasadena.

Milestone helps all artists including dancers, sound and lighting designers, film, and photographers. Membership can be obtained through volunteering and is free to everyone involved.

Many PCC students have been involved with Milestone – too many to count said Alva- but Milestone opens its doors to all artists. A few members have been involved since the company was an unofficial club on campus. Some of the core members who are key decision makers with the company are current and former PCC students.

Alva also said that during the casting and staffing process, volunteers will be asked to identify their strengths and weaknesses as an artist. Milestone will do its part to support and move an artist forward, but it takes determination, discipline and drive on the part of the artist to make it possible. Efforts are 50/50.

Milestone Theatre Company posts casting calls around PCC, and those who fill out a contact form on the group’s website (milestonetheatre.org), will be notified of future productions.
